How to insert a citation

References should appear in the page where the reference is cited. This is accomplished with MediaWiki's <ref></ref> tag. In the visual editor There is a "Cite" drop down at the top of the page being edited. This option displays a text box where the citation can be filled in.

Before the Cite->Basic is selected, the cursor should be positioned at the location where the reference to the citation is made. MediaWiki will then assign a super-scripted number to that location and print the reference information at the bottom of the current page next to the corresponding number

If more than one reference is made to the same citation then select Cite->Re-use. This will display a prompt with a list of citations already in the current page. Clicking on the appropriate reference will place the same super-scripted number at this new location in the page.

Citation form

ICAR has traditionally used the CBE style and form for citations and references. This is the same method used by many journals in biological sciences and is used by the Journal of Animal Science. CBE is a slightly older version of the CSE style and differs only in where the date appears.
